Alexander De Cadenet's X-ray of Jonathan Aitken 1999

Alexander De Cadenet's X-ray of Jonathan Aitken 1999

Although I haven’t written a poem for a while, The London Poetry Festival has perked up my long lost love. That and a night at Rich Mix for Tongue Fu…and two poets with book launches.

I met Michael Horovitz on the last night of the Festival – Monday 10th August. I had the impression of looking at a giant amongst poets (even though he sat at a table covered with anthologies and books.) He read from his master work The New Wasteland, which has taken him 10 years to put together.

Horovitz will soon be celebrating 50 years of New Departures, for which he is editor and publisher – a noteworthy anniversary me thinks! We met last night for drinks and advice on promoting his many projects. I thought i’d be home by eight – but i’d made the mistake of judging an old book by it’s cover – i didn’t get in until 11.30! (we were both the worse for Rose vino!)

Alexander De Cadenet launches his poetry/photography book – The Muse next month. I missed him reading at the London Poetry Festival but, if his art is anything to go by – I’m guessing his poetry will be quirky and original. I hope to find out more about the launch in Fulham soon.
